A couple of weeks ago my wife and I were riding with another couple on a 4 hour car adventure. I don’t know how you ride with your homies but 4 hours is a lot of time to spend with anyone in a car. Typically, natural conversation will fill 70% of your time. But what happens when you’ve exhausted the topic of “The Office”? Not that this would occur with this couple because they are dear friends and there’s a lot to talk about. Regardless, they introduced us to this game that I want to share with you when you’re on a trip with:
a) your significant other
b) your friend
c) your relative
d) Miss Daisy
You begin by saying any random word that comes to mind and then the other person has to think through a time in their life ( a memory, a story, etc) that your word evokes. For example, you might say “hanger” and then the other person might tell of the time they broke into a car using a wire hanger.
This game consumed the entire trip while at the same time gave us an excuse to know each other better. The experience was full of insight, laughter and intrigue as we asked further questions about these hidden “gems” of our lives. So, next time you run out of what to talk about with your travelling partner turn to them and ask if they want to play a game.
