Day 20

It is day 20 of our new living arrangement. The Roommates have successfully managed to transition into power with very little resistance from us. In a short amount of time they have completely disrupted our lives, depleted our strength and captured our hearts. Sleep is our new currency. We continually attempt to negotiate “nap hours” for “milk”. We’ve yet to come to an agreement that benefits both parties.

We have had to decline some visitors for these first early weeks because we are in desperate need of finding our rhythm. Also, to be honest, we scavenge for opportunities to sleep when they sleep so the idea of entertaining/hosting guests gets bumped to the bottom of the list. We’d love for everyone to meet them. But reality is that it’s going to be a while before we have the confidence and rest to do that.

In the meantime, I’d like to take the next few moments to answer some Frequently Asked Questions:

How do you pronounce their names?

Check the pronunciation key above. If it feels odd to say their name, it’s probably the right way of saying it. Trust your gut.

How are you doing?

Despite being sleep deprived, we still have our sanity and optimism intact. (Mainly during the day.) Kels is suffering from a relentless rash that itches all over her body without mercy. I’m consistently gaining weight due to the ever-growing size of bags under my eyes. Overall, we are doing well. Of course there are mini-meltdowns, tears and stress that comes with the territory of being a new parent.

How do you tell them apart?

Simple. Their faces are actually pretty different. If you look above you notice immediately that they don’t look identical. Also, Zavi is a bit larger, has more hair and is really demanding about his food. Marzuki, is lighter skinned, weighs less and is so chilled about eating that he is prone to “sleeping” in the middle of feeding.

Have you received any help?

We have. Family and friends have been amazing in preparing meals for us. This has been the most significant and needed form of help that we have received. If you are one of those people, please hear my heart and stomach when I say, “Thank you”. This is perhaps another reason why I’m gaining so much weight!

How did you develop the muscle and stamina needed in order to carry both boys?

Easy. See my training video below.

  1. @Katia-Thanks sis! I don’t see how Zumba would help me! Shaking the babies is usually not a good idea 😉

  2. I love this post so much!
