LOVE is Like the Wind

Wind is a strange, yet ordinary thing.

You know it exists and that it is a ‘something’, but you can’t hold it in your hand. You can’t make it stop. It is active, alive, a force to be reckoned with and also something to run and dance in.

Elusive. Powerful. Unseen

When wind picks up sand, over time it erodes and changes huge pieces of immovable rock.

When wind lifts up the ocean, it can wipe out an entire coastline.

When it grabs warm sunshine, it can brighten your whole day.

Wind brings change.

Love, like wind, is something you cannot see or hold, yet you know it when you experience it. Love breaks down barriers, slowly changes things, brings joy, and cannot be contained.

Without wind, we wouldn’t have windmills, hang gliding, kites, sailboats, wind chimes, or wind socks.

Love creates friendship, joy, forgiveness, companionship, a reason to help and be helped, and the ability to change the world.

Love is part of our DNA.

We were created to share love, to blow through a town and leave them wondering what just happened. To have people see, hear, feel, and experience the effects of love.

Nothing can stand against persistent, ever blowing love. All barriers, small and great, will eventually bow to the power of love.

It may be simple, but it is not easy.

Love, unlike the wind, for it to occur requires you and I to choose it. It takes us deciding that we are not the center of the universe, rather recognize that Jesus is at the core of who and what we are.

You cannot give that which you do not have.

In fact, we most easily give away what we have extra of. If you want to give away love, you have to have it in reserve. As I continue to follow Jesus and do the small acts of love he requires of me, I always get more back. Even when I empty out my last drop of love, I turn to him and ask for more and he always overwhelms me with more than I can keep for myself.

It is time for us to go to the source of love and fill up so we can show the people around us the effects of love. To feed those who need a warm meal and good conversation, give money to those who don’t have enough, remind someone why they are fabulous, help the one in front of us like we wish we could help the entire world, and to smile joyfully as we do it time and time again.

Go change the world. Go love like the wind.

What does love cause you to create and do?
