We were all expecting Ray LaMontagne. Instead, a robust man with a guitar appeared on the stage. His name is Vusi Mahlasela. This troubadour from South Africa grabbed our attention by the unique power of his voice and his affable personality. He melded stories and songs together with a blend of humour, politics and empowerment. Vusi could easily headline his own concert but for the time being, in North America at least, he is the perfect opening act.
