I remember watching Al Spx (Cold Specks) a few months ago on George Stroumboulopoulos and finding myself arrested by the honesty of her voice. It was nearing my bedtime so in an almost sleepy state her inviting words, “We are many/ We are many/ We are dust/ Into dust we will all return” seemed less like words of resignation and more the humble acceptance of a shared reality. I look forward to seeing this self-taught artist rise in popularity. Her “official” album is released at the end of May and is currently on tour with Great Lake Swimmers.
