As we move forward into this new year I thought it would be nice to look back. Preferably to a time when I was only 10 years old. We were moving from Toronto to Edmonton. The plan was that my brother Jose and I could buy 1 cassette for our entire 4 day trip. I won’t say which album I chose but thankfully the one Jose picked up was “Symphony in Full Effect” by Maestro Fresh Wes. After several listens my dad was convinced this was not an appropriate album to listen to so he threw it into a garbage can at a gas station. Thankfully, Jose was cunning enough to quickly retrieve it so we could continue to enjoy this “contraband” Canadian beats in our walkmen. sigh. I miss 1989.
