Patton Oswalt is brilliantly hopeless and tragic. It’s not really about football but about the depravity and celebration of a life lived with passion. In this instance it’s the New York Giants. The very thing that brings joy to his life becomes the thing that complicates it. Despite an amazing performance by Oswalt it was difficult for me to find an emotional connection. I don’t know if it was too much of a caricature of the uber-fan to be believable. Don’t get me wrong, I very much enjoyed watching the story unravel in ways I didn’t expect. I can’t think of a better movie to watch with the boys before the big game this sunday. Let’s just hope it’s awhile before the Giants make it to the Super Bowl!
