A SIMPLE PLAN

Bleak. Disturbing. Eerie. Not the type of film you want to watch when you want to get into the “christmas spirit”. However, it does leave you with persistent echoing questions of “Would I do this?” “How much would the opportunity for wealth corrupt my character?” “Could I have come up with a better plan?”. Watching this with my wife gave me an interesting angle in observing the relationship between Hank and Sarah.  The “least likely” character to go along with everything was Sarah and yet it was her that instigated some of the most cold-blooded maneuvers.  Jacob is the complex hero in this story as he grapples with the tension of keeping true to his family while carrying the weight of his mistakes. Which you don’t fully see realized in Hank and Sarah, which in my mind makes the conclusion of this film that much more chilling.
